Dashain & Tihar Furniture — Guest-Ready Homes for the Festival Season

Dashain and Tihar are the two biggest festivals on the Nepali calendar, and for most families they mean the same thing every year: relatives arriving from near and far, tika and blessings exchanged in the living room, and long shared meals around whatever dining space the household has. Every year, our showroom in Boje Pokhari, Imadol sees a steady rise in families wanting their living and dining spaces refreshed before the festival begins, because a worn-out sofa or a dining table too small for the whole extended family becomes very visible when everyone gathers at once.

This page is about getting your home genuinely guest-ready in time — from extra seating and larger dining capacity to a simple repolish of furniture that has seen a year of daily use — and about understanding our pre-Dashain delivery cutoff dates so your new pieces actually arrive before the first tika is applied, not after the guests have gone home.

Guest-Ready Living Room Sets

During Dashain, the living room becomes the centre of the house — the space where elders give tika and jamara (blessed barley shoots, another Dashain ritual) to younger family members, and where relatives sit together for hours at a time. If your current sofa set is showing wear, or simply is not large enough for the number of people who visit during the festival, we can supply an additional sofa, a set of extra chairs, or a full replacement set sized to your actual living room dimensions.

We keep a range of ready fabric and finish options in stock during the festival season specifically so families do not have to wait through a long custom order to get a living room ready in time.

Extra Seating and Dining Capacity for Family Gatherings

Tihar brings its own version of the same challenge: Bhai Tika gatherings and Laxmi Puja evenings often mean more people sitting down to eat together than a household's everyday dining table can seat. We supply extension dining tables, additional chair sets that match an existing table's finish, and compact folding or stackable seating that can be brought out for festival week and stored the rest of the year without taking up permanent space.

Pre-Dashain Delivery Cutoff Dates

Because so many families order furniture in the same few weeks before Dashain, we publish clear delivery cutoff dates each year and recommend ordering well ahead of them. As a general rule, custom or made-to-order pieces should be booked at least three to four weeks before Ghatasthapana (the start of Dashain) to guarantee delivery before Vijaya Dashami, while in-stock or ready-fabric pieces can often be delivered within a week if ordered during the same festival season. Once we are within the final two weeks before Dashain, availability for custom orders becomes very limited, so early booking genuinely matters.

Tihar Home Refresh

Tihar, the festival of lights, is traditionally a time for cleaning and refreshing the home, and many families extend that to their furniture — new cushion covers, a repolished dining table, or a wardrobe touch-up ahead of Laxmi Puja, when homes are expected to look their best for the goddess of wealth to visit. If Dashain shopping did not leave time for a full refresh, Tihar is a natural second opportunity, and our smaller refresh jobs can usually be completed faster than full custom orders.

Cleaning and Repolish Service Before the Festival

Rather than replacing a whole piece, many households simply want their existing wooden furniture — dining tables, wardrobes, showcases — cleaned, sanded lightly, and repolished so it looks fresh for guests. We offer an on-site and workshop repolish service for exactly this, and it is one of the most requested services in the weeks leading up to both Dashain and Tihar. Booking this early matters just as much as booking new furniture, since our repolish team's calendar also fills up during festival season.

Seasonal Festival Offers

Each year we run seasonal festival offers timed around Dashain and Tihar. These offers are announced on our Offers page and confirmed by phone when you call our Imadol showroom, since exact terms can vary by product category and stock availability at the time you enquire. If you are planning a festival-season order, mention that you are calling about the Dashain-Tihar season so our team can walk you through whatever is currently running.

Pre-Festival Booking Timeline

For custom or made-to-order furniture, we recommend booking at least three to four weeks before Ghatasthapana to guarantee delivery ahead of Vijaya Dashami, the main day of tika-giving. In-stock sofas, dining sets, and ready-fabric pieces can often be delivered within one to two weeks even closer to the festival, but stock on popular fabrics and finishes moves quickly once festival season begins.

Our repolish service calendar also fills up fast in the weeks before Dashain, since so many households want the same service in the same short window. Booking a repolish job two to three weeks ahead gives us enough time to complete the work and let polish cure properly before guests arrive.

If your priority is Tihar rather than Dashain, you generally have a little more breathing room, since the two festivals are roughly three weeks apart, but any custom order still needs to be placed with enough lead time to avoid the same late-season rush that affects Dashain bookings.

Booking checklist

  • 3-4 weeks before Ghatasthapana for custom furniture orders
  • 1-2 weeks before Dashain for in-stock, ready-fabric pieces
  • 2-3 weeks ahead for repolish and cleaning service bookings
