Lagankhel is old Patan's transport heart — the bus park, the hospital, the Mangal Bazaar road running up to Patan Durbar Square. The housing stock here is unlike anywhere else we serve: tall, narrow Newari townhouses on the courtyard lanes, many of them three or four rooms deep with a single 90 cm staircase, alongside 1980s and 1990s concrete houses on the wider Lagankhel–Satdobato stretch.
Those townhouses set real constraints. Rooms are often long and narrow — 8x14 ft is common — with low door heads under 6 ft and windows placed high in the wall. Standard furniture bought off a showroom floor frequently cannot even enter the building. Almost every Lagankhel job we take is measured on site, and a good share of it is built to knock down and assemble upstairs.
Lagankhel customers also ask for traditional detailing more than anywhere else in the Valley: carved aankhi jhyal-inspired panels on wardrobe doors, low seating for a formal receiving room, puja cabinets in Sal wood with a proper ventilated top. Our carpenters do this work by hand, and it is worth saying plainly that hand-carved panels add both time and cost — expect two to three additional weeks and a meaningful premium over a plain shutter.
Logistics
Everything is built at Boje Pokhari, Imadol and moved by our own team — no third-party handling between the workshop and your Lagankhel address.
Lagankhel is about 4 km from Boje Pokhari through Gwarko, 15 to 25 minutes outside peak. Delivery is free. The complication is not distance but the last 200 metres: many courtyard lanes off Mangal Bazaar road are too narrow for a pickup and closed to vehicles during festivals and jatra processions.
For those addresses we park at the nearest accessible point and hand-carry, and we plan around the festival calendar — during Rato Machhindranath and the main Dashain and Tihar days the old-city lanes are effectively shut, so we deliver before or after. Tell us your lane name at booking and we will tell you honestly whether the piece needs to be knock-down.
